A good estate plan includes powers of attorney for our medical and financial affairs while we are still living - (I describe this as "at our bedside") - and a will to ensure the orderly distribution of our assets once we have passed away - (I describe this as "at our graveside"). Of paramount importance is planning well ahead of time for our minor children by nominating a trusted guardian in case of emergency. When we realize that a loved one is no longer able to independently manage personal, medical, or financial decisions, families are faced with difficult and emotional choices. Protective proceedings in the Colorado courts provide legal means of ensuring that vulnerable individuals receive the care and protection they need, while preserving their dignity and quality of life.
